The Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) and the UK India Strategic Investment Forum (UKISIF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen economic cooperation between Maharashtra and the United Kingdom.
The MoU was signed in London on 6 June 2026 by Mr Atul Shirodkar for MEDC and Sushil W Gaikwad, Founder & Director, for UKISIF.
Founded in 1957 and based in Mumbai, MEDC is an independent economic think-tank working with business, industry and the Government of Maharashtra to promote the state's development. Maharashtra is one of India's largest state economies and a leading destination for foreign direct investment.
Three areas of cooperation
- Investment: promoting investment opportunities into Maharashtra from the UK, and from Maharashtra into the UK.
- Engagement: building business-to-business and business-to-government links, including delegations, roundtables and introductions.
- Growth: supporting innovation, trade and sustainable development, with early focus on [sectors, e.g. maritime, clean energy and manufacturing].
What the partners said
“Maharashtra is where much of the UK–India opportunity is being built. This partnership gives UK investors a trusted route into the state and gives Maharashtra's businesses a direct line to UK capital and expertise.”
